New Zealand qualifications are structured from Level 5 to Level 10, covering everything from diplomas to advanced research degrees. All programs must be approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
Qualification Eligibility Duration
Diploma – Level 5 & 6 12th Grade 1–2 years
Diploma – Level 7 12th Grade 3 years
Graduate Diploma – Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree 1 year
Postgraduate Diploma – Level 8 Bachelor’s Degree 1 year
Master’s – Level 9 Bachelor’s Degree 1 year
PhD / Doctorate – Level 10 Master’s Degree 3 years
Step 1: Apply for an Offer Letter
Select a university, polytechnic, or private training institution.
Documents Required:
– Grade 10 & 12 mark sheets
– Undergraduate diploma/degree (if applicable)
– English proficiency test results (IELTS / PTE)
– Passport copy
Step 2: Prepare Visa Documents
– Proof of funds (tuition + living expenses, approx. NZ$20,000 per year)
– Police Clearance Certificate
– Health Examination Certificate
Step 3: Submit Visa Application
Applications are submitted online via Immigration New Zealand.
Step 4: Receive Approval in Principle (AIP)
Once AIP is granted, the first-year tuition fees must be paid. The visa is issued following
payment.
Graduates of eligible programs may apply for a 1–3 year work visa, depending on their qualification. While students may work in any field, those pursuing Permanent Residency are encouraged to focus on occupations from the Green List.
